Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is booking club appearances in Ireland

Sitch heads for Tullamore
You know you’re on the downward fame slope when you go from being one of America’s most buzzed about celebs one minute, to booking club appearances in Ireland the next.

Such is the situation facing Jersey Shore bad boy Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.  The best of his GTL days behind him, Sitch is earning some cash by doing appearances in clubs in the U.K., and he’s heading to Ireland this Friday to show off his muscles at the Wright Venue in Swords.

It gets even better – the following week he’ll move along to some place called the Tullamore Palace Club in Offaly. What’s that they say about 15 minutes?

Lucky number Seven for Colin Farrell - Martin McDonagh’s 'Seven Psychopaths' set to be big success - VIDEO

Martin McDonagh, Sam Rockwell and Colin Farrell in Toronto
His big budget remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Total Recall laid a fat egg at the box office this summer, but there’s no doubt that Colin Farrell’s next offering, Seven Psychopaths, written and directed by Oscar/Tony winner Martin McDonagh, will fare better with the critics.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last weekend, and Colin was on hand to help promote the project with McDonagh and co-stars Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson and Christopher Walken among others.

In the film he plays Martin, an alcoholic Irish screenwriter who eventually teams with Rockwell’s character to write a film, but gets sidetracked by stealing the precious dog of the mob boss played by Harrelson.

It sounds like a typically outlandish McDonagh film, just like In Bruges, which earned Colin a Golden Globe a few years back. The Guardian in England gave it four stars, and critics in Toronto were also pleased with what they saw.

“The film has a certain kind of chaotic nature to it, but it was really, really easy to shoot,” said Farrell.
McDonagh, born in Britain to Irish parents and author of the Leenane Irish trilogy that made such a splash on Broadway back in the nineties, was his usual deadpan self at the presser for the film. When asked if he researched real life psychos for his movie he replied, “Not really, other than my mother.”

The film is due for U.S. release in the next few weeks, and will bow in Ireland in December.

Will Ferrell breaks down in tears on Conan over Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart split

Will Ferrell on 'Conan'
Funnyman Will Ferrell, currently doing press for his new film 'The Campaign,' stopped by Conan on Thursday night. Host Conan O'Brien almost immediately knew that something was bothering Ferrell.
Ferrell was at first reluctant to share his emotions with fellow Irish American O'Brien, but soon let loose as to what was bothering him.

In what appeared to be a spoof of super-fan Nutty Madam's tearful video post about Kristen's cheating, he said: "I don't know if you follow the news at all, but there's this actress, Kristen Stewart and she goes by K-Stew, and she had a boyfriend Robert Pattinson - he's R-Patz - and she cheated on him. And they've broken up, they're not going to get back together, ever."

"What they had was so special Conan, you don't even know what they had, they were in love and she just threw it all away."

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, both of 'Twilight' fame, both made headlines recently when it came to light that Stewart had been cheating on Pattinson with her director from 'Snow White and The Huntsman' Rupert Sanders. Sanders is married with two children. The scandal reportedly left Pattinson feeling humiliated and heartbroken.

"I don't know if there was anything I could have done to prevent this," said a comically emotional Ferrell. "I don't know what it means to the 'Twilight' franchise. It's not going to be fine ever! (shouting) It's never going to be fine.

"She is a trampire, that's what she is!" proclaimed Ferrell, to which the audience responded with laughter and applause.

'Total Recall’ star Colin Farrell relaxes in Cancun

Colin Farrell in Cancun
Colin Farrell is looking HOT these days, as he showed during a weekend stroll in Cancun, Mexico with his ever-present sister Claudine, who also works as his personal assistant.

Total Recall, his hotly anticipated remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, opens nationwide on August 3, and he’ll be back home in Dublin on August 14 for the European premiere, along with co-stars Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale.  His Irish fans are surely going to like what they see.

“I actually like the gym,” Farrell, 36, told USA Today. “I find peace in it. Which is... weird. I never thought that would be me.”

The old Colin used to have no time for healthy pursuits, as evidenced by old interview.  'I see these quotes, ‘Working out for me is lifting a Carlsberg.’  It was true at the time. But now, things have changed.”

Making the film wasn’t at first appealing to Farrell, who had fond memories of the first Total Recall.

''I loved Arnie in the original Total Recall, which I was when I was 15 or 16. There were some funny one liners, there were some great action sequences and really fun performances from Arnie and Sharon Stone. So when I was approached about a new version I was dubious,” he said.

“I didn't feel the need to fill those size 16 shoes or 18 shoes or whatever size foot Arnie has. The film felt different enough that I could go and make it my own.”

Ann Curry gets a slap in the face for NBC ‘Today Show’ camera - VIDEO

Ann Curry
While greeting cheering onlookers, “Today Show” host, Ann Curry, who was recently given her marching orders, got a slap in the nose from a crowd-panning camera.

It was a complete accident and everyone on the scene responded very light heartedly to the situation.

Although the camera hit Curry’s nose which she is seen holding after she continued to laugh and say that she did break her nose before, after Lauer added, “That was reminiscent of the revolving door incident of years ago.”

When the camera made its way back to Curry, Roker, Morales and Lauer, Ann remained composed as Morales assured her, “Your nose is OK,” while Roker joked that her dental work still looked great.

After a great recovery made by all, the Today crew provided viewers with a replay in case they missed it the first time.

Louis Walsh filled in for Simon Cowell on “The X Factor”

Louis Walsh, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid in Kansas City Last week (Brian Prahl / Splash News)
Louis Walsh, probably best described as the Irish Simon Cowell, is getting a taste of what it’s like to be Cowell these days as he filled in for the sick mogul on the U.S. X Factor, alongside other judges Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid.

Cowell took sick with a bug and recruited his buddy Walsh, who’s a judge on the U.K. X Factor.  He dispatched his private jet to London and flew Walsh straight into Kansas City where auditions were taking place.

“(Simon) greased the wheels with the U.S. bosses, telling them that Louis was the man who knew more about The X Factor than any other judge,” a source said.

Mayoman Walsh seems to have gotten along great with Spears, Cowell’s Hail Mary hire in the hopes of shoring up the show’s second season ratings.

"I loved Britney. She is such a star. She's really bright, really brilliant, she has it totally sussed,” Walsh said.

Charlize Theron almost knocked Michael Fassbender out at MTV Music Awards

Charlize Theron pretends to kick Michael Fassbender at the MTV Movie Awards (AP)

Charlize Theron looks like she landed a knee on Michael Fassbender right where it hurts at the MTV Awards on Sunday night, where the two were on hand to promote their film Prometheus which opens this Friday.

Irish thespian Fassbender, famous for his full frontal in Shame, is still getting ribbed about it. MTV host Russell Brand let him have it good from the stage.

"I think Fassbender should be roundly condemned for profiting from sex addiction," he said.  “I deliberately removed all erotic content from this monologue 'cause he's only there in the second row and if I get him too aroused, I may lose an eye. Fassbender's pink pipe of acting wonder! That's a good skill for an X-Man."

Fassbender laughed, but really, Brand hasn’t been funny in a long, long time. For more with Fassbender, read our interview in this week’s Craic section.

One Direction had fans "screaming all night" at sell-out show in New Jersey

One Direction had fans "screaming all night" at New Jersey's IZOD Center for a sell-out show on Friday, according to MTV.com.

Thousands of fans from across the Tri-State area filled the 19,000-capacity arena for the latest stop on the band's headlining Stateside tour.

One Direction hit the stage, opening  with "Na Na Na," and the crowd jumped to its feet.

Harry told the crowd, "I think this is our 'biggest show' as a band!" which off course set the fans screaming again.

Each One Direction member sang a solo cover of some of their favorite songs, including the Black Eyed Peas "I Got a Feeling." The boy then serenaded fans with "Moments."

After they proceeded with some of their more popular hits, including their album's title track "Up All Night," fans tweeted questions from the audience to their favorite bandmember.

The group closed with singles "One Thing" and their #1 hit "What Makes You Beautiful." They returned to perform "I Want" as an encore.

Kristen Stewart spent her first day on the set of ‘On The Road’ naked - VIDEO

The 22-year-old actress plays the sexually adventurous first wife of Dean Moriarty, (Garrett Hedlund) in the big screen version of Jack Kerouac's classic novel and although Kristen knew she would have some racy scenes, she and Garrett weren’t expecting her to have to strip off so soon after she started shooting.

Garrett – whose character attempts a threesome with Kristen’s and Sam Riley’s (Sal Paradise) – told E! News: “Our first day of shooting was answering the door naked and her being in bed over there.”

Kristen added: “That was maybe the one day I didn’t feel as free as I did.”

However, despite her initial shock, Kristen admitted she was surprisingly comfortable with the sex scenes and is shocked with her performance when she watches the movie at premieres and screenings.

She explained: “I genuinely did feel so completely comfortable that watching it now even I’m like ‘Whoa!’ Which is fine, that’s the way I should react to it. I’m so not like her, as I’ve said.”

Robert Pattinson refused to bare all for his new movie David Cronenberg’s "Cosmopolis" - VIDEO

The British heartthrob stars in David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’ and although he is a huge fan of the director and had promised to do anything he asked, he drew the line at frontal nudity.

Robert is quoted by Metro France as saying: "Five minutes before we filmed, David told me, 'I want to see the bottom of your balls on the top of the frame.' At the moment, I reminded myself that I would do anything for him. So I went back to see him and told him that wouldn't happen.

"He took it really well. At the start, it's a very bizarre scene that you won't see again in another movie, I promise."

While he enjoyed making the movie – based on the novel by Don DeLillo – ‘Twilight Saga’ star Robert admitted he was anxious he wouldn’t be good enough for the role.

He said: "I spent two weeks in a hotel room worrying and confusing myself.”

Robert is currently at the Cannes Film Festival where he attended the red-carpet premiere of girlfriend Kristen Stewart's film, ‘On the Road’ on Wednesday (23.05.12) and the couple are also expected to attend last night’s screening of ‘Cosmopolis’ together.

“Bridesmaids” actor Chris O’Dowd can’t wait to get married this summer

Chris O'Dowd in Cannes (Andreas Rentz / Getty Images)

Irish actor Chris O’Dowd, who made it big last year as Kristen Wiig’s love interest in Bridesmaids, will walk down the aisle himself this summer in London with British TV host Dawn Porter, and the Roscommon-born comic sounds like he can’t wait.

Being alone, he told the Daily Telegraph in London last week, just isn’t for him – not that he didn’t partake in some of the joys of bachelorhood when he had the chance.  After going to LA in search of his big break in January of 2009 he eventually was cast in the film Gulliver’s Travels with Jason Segel and Jack Black. A friendship developed with Segel, who he calls a “kindred spirit.”

"We spent time together being, you know, single,” O’Dowd, 32, recalled.

"Being awful men essentially. Waking up either alone or with someone, but still feeling lonely. That's what I remember about being single. It's not for me."

He met Porter while she was in LA on business a couple of years ago, and they’ve been together since. He also eventually met Judd Apatow, the uber-producer who O’Dowd says is the reason he journeyed to LA.

Apatow is the mind behind hits such as Knocked Up, Bridesmaids, Superbad, etc., etc., and O’Dowd is one of his go-to actors now – he co-stars in Apatow’s This Is 40, due for release in December.

“Judd's amazing at depicting believable male friendships, and his films are very truthful while also being s***-your-pants funny. It's a tricky combination,” O’Dowd says.

Recalling the audition for Bridesmaids, O’Dowd was sure he’d be second best.  “I honestly went to this audition thinking, there is no way I'll get this. I knew other people were auditioning who I'd lost out

to before, so I was kinda like, ahhh, f*** this."

Now, O’Dowd says, Apatow is encouraging him to write his own film, with Apatow on board to produce, a formula that’s worked successfully for other favorites like Seth Rogen and Segel.

"Writing a movie for Judd feels like the thing I should be doing now – I just have to find the time,” he laughs.

Undoubtedly that will be one of his projects for the future, but in the meantime O’Dowd remains busy.

He was in Cannes last week for the premiere of an Australian ensemble film called The Sapphires, in which he co-stars as the manager of an Aboriginal band of sisters who dream of making it big in the sixties.

Harvey Weinstein picked up the film for worldwide distribution rights, and it seems like a shrewd move as the reviews have been incredible.

“Following his endearing turn in Bridesmaids, Chris O’Dowd asserts himself as one of the most effortlessly funny actors working today, his pliant, Mr. Congeniality demeanor yielding and snapping like an elastic band,” wrote The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be released towards the end of the year. Could be that Weinstein has another one like The Artist on his hands, which would certainly bode well for O’Dowd’s burgeoning career.

Robert Pattinson poses for 13-hour photo shoot with pregnant woman - VIDEO

Robert Pattinson posed for a revealing 13-hour photo shoot with a pregnant brunette, and it’s not Kristen Stewart!

The London-born actor posed for the magazine shoot to honor Cosmopolis director, David Cronenberg.

The pictures, which will appear in the June issue of France’s Premiere magazine, show the 25-year-old holding hands with a pregnant woman, the pair only covered by a red silk sheet as they lie in bed together. In the same image another R Patz is also pictured beside the mystery brunette gazing at the couple. The pose is inspired by Cronenberg’s 1988's psychological drama "Dead Ringers."

Another graphic shot shows a shirtless Pattinson sporting a deep gash on his belly, which is inspired by Cronenberg's 1983 s
ci-fi horror "Videodrome."

The concept for the 13-hour shoot was apparently Pattinson’s own idea.

In “Cosmopolis” Pattinson plays Eric Packer, a 28-year-old billionaire who finds his life changed forever after he sets off for a haircut in Manhattan one night. The film will be premiere during the upcoming 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

The “Twilight” star said that working alongside David Cronenberg has increased his confidence.

He told Premiere magazine: “Before, I spent my time doubting myself. As soon as I read a script that I liked, I was working myself up, asking myself if I was good enough. Now, I tell myself: 'F*** it! If they want to hire you, go!”

Irish pal Louis Walsh stands up for 'American Idol' boss Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh
British talent show impresario Simon Cowell has certainly made his mark on this side of the Atlantic with American Idol -- but not so much his follow up The X-Factor, which debuted here to so-so ratings last year.

Now he’s got a new problem on his hands, a just published warts and all unauthorized biography that portrays him as a self-obsessed, eccentric, plastic surgery loving lothario who can’t get his act together when it comes to opposite sex.

Cowell has at least one defender out there, though – Louis Walsh, the Irish boyband manager and judge on the British X Factor who has been both a friend and foe of Cowell’s for years.

Walsh, 59, quite the entrepreneur in his own right given that he founded two of the biggest boybands in Europe, Westlife and Boyzone, says Simon may have his faults, but overall he’s one of the good guys.

"Simon loves life, fun, cars, girls and he works hard," Walsh told the Sunday World in Dublin. "He is self-made and a worldwide success. And yes he is arrogant, ambitious and enjoys life.

"I can only say good things about him. I've known him for 14 years and he has made so many people's careers and made them millionaires.  He gave me a break and changed my life. I wouldn't be where I am without him.”

The two famously fell out a few years back when Cowell temporarily fired Walsh from The X Factor, but the spat didn’t last long and Walsh was back on the air, where he remains to this day. The X Factor in the U.K. doesn’t quite have the ratings muscle that it displayed in its heyday a couple of years ago, but Walsh has remained steadfast, like Randy Jackson after all the American Idol upheaval.

"I know the real Simon, he's fun, he's hard working, and he has never done anything wrong on anybody,” Walsh added.

"He is as vain as hell, but he's upfront about it. He looks after himself, but he tells you everything he does, that's the thing about him. I've been in his house and he's just fun. He's really good to his mother and he loves animals."

One Direction makes grown men weep - Dad breaks down with emotion - VIDEO

One Direction brought a Brisbane father to tears this week, when his daughter achieved her dream of meeting the teenage pinups.

Anthony Lee and his daughter Catie Rose managed to catch a moment with the band as they left a photo shoot in Brisbane.

With camera in hand, the proud father, now being duped Australia’s best dad, cried tears of joy when his teenage daughter got to meet the British boy band.

"We waited for three hours and when they came out we met them," Catie Rose told the TODAY Show.

Lee said they had previously tried to meet the teenage boy band through competitions and at concerts.

"We never got tickets but we got the best thing, a hug from Harry and autographs from all the boys," Lee said.

When a reporter questioned why he was crying Lee replied "just to see her happy because she tried so hard".

"It's taken so long to get her here and she's got a signed thing by them. She's done it."

Also crying, Catie Rose told the reporter "I love him (her dad) so much."

Finally the biggest 'Simpson's' secret revealed - Springfield based on Oregon town

The Simpson's
Matt Groening, creator of the animated series, has always kept the inspiration for the fictional Springfield in the show secret until now, saying it is based on a community 100 miles south of where he grew up in Portland.

He told Smithsonian magazine: "Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon.

"The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show 'Father Knows Best' took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown.

"When I grew up, I realised it was just a fictitious name.

"I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the US.

"In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, 'This will be cool; everyone will think it's their Springfield.' And they do."

Matt added the animated family's home Evergreen Terrace is named after the street he grew up on, while other characters in the series - which has run for 23 years - such as Reverend Lovejoy, school bully Kearney and the Simpsons neighbour Ned Flanders are all named after streets in Portland.

Four of the family members - Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie - are all named after Matt's own family, but he changed the name of the boy in the series from Matt to Bart.

Explaining why, he said it was because he "had this idea of an angry father yelling 'Bart,' and Bart sounds kind of like bark - like a barking dog," which he thought would be funnier.

The town of Springfield, Oregon, was beaten by Springfield, Vermont, in a competition to host the premiere of 'The Simpsons Movie' in 2007.

Dominic West got inspiration for playing 'John Carter' tyrant from his two-year-old son

The 42-year-old actor has three children with wife Catherine Fitzgerald, Dora, five, Senan, three and Francis, two, and admitted his evil 'John Carter' character Sab Than, the Prince of Zodanga, was influenced by his son who loves playing with swords.

Speaking at the UK premiere of 'John Carter' at the BFI Southbank last night (01.03.12), he explained to BANG Showbiz: "I play a despotic, selfish, mad, fighting madman and I got all the inspiration I needed from my two-year-old son for that. Mark Strong's character had this amazing weapon and it reminded me of my son when I gave him a little sword and all he wanted was to hit someone over the head with it. The relationship I have with Mark's character is sort of father and son and my inspiration came from my little boys there.

"They're too young for to see 'John Carter' though, they're only two and three."

Dominic also revealed he doesn't want his children to follow in his footsteps and become actors, and he is trying to convince his oldest daughter, 14-year-old Martha - his child from a previous relationship with Polly Astor - to become a scientist or an engineer instead.

He said: "I'd discourage my children from becoming an actor but that won't make a difference. My daughter is mad keen on it but I'm trying to convince her to become a scientist or engineer but I don't think it's going to work. I'm not against acting. As a career I just think we need more scientists and engineers. Everyone wants to be an actor these days."
