The actor admits he tried to read as many reviews of his performance in Oliver Stone's critically panned 'Alexander' as possible, even though the experience was tough.

He explained: "I got some pretty special reviews. Unfortunately, I went to all four corners of the world to find every word I could that was written about it. I read it all. It was pretty tough.

"I say tough from a very sensitive, emotional place. It aint tough in the grand scheme of things, but when you put yourself out there and you're really criticized and kinda called s**t, it's not nice. So sure, you do take it personally."

The 36-year-old actor is deeply passionate about his work and adds he gives his all to each project, even big budget action films which don't require as much acting and dialogue.

He told Nuts magazine: "I work as hard as I can. I think my way through it a lot, and I feel my way through it a lot, and it means something to me. Even 'Total Recall' - a big summer movie, cost a f**king fortune. Even that. I couldn't have worked on that if I couldn't personalize it. Genuinely."

New Year, new batch of silly celeb stories.  Let’s kick off 2013 with the latest Colin Farrell rumor, and it’s a biggie – Perez Hilton’s site breathlessly reported on Friday afternoon that the twin-headed beast known as Brangelina would never have happened if Angelina Jolie had her way.

For it’s Colin, and not Brad Pitt, who was Angie’s first choice for life partner and baby daddy Perez reported, citing “whispers around Tinsel Town” as his source.

The two first met on the set of the Oliver Stone turkey Alexander back in 2005, and Angie was “desperately infatuated” with her Irish leading man, Perez says.

“Every week they were sleeping together, with her feelings for him growing stronger and stronger. But, like the playboy he is, it's rumored that he was sexin' all the other ladies around too. And her emotions were NOT reciprocated!” the site reported.

Colin stuck to business on the promotion trail for Alexander and stayed away from Angie, who’s next film turned out to be Mr. and Mrs. Smith, where she got her hooks into the married Pitt. And we all know what happened next.

Perez opined, “Sometimes you gotta feel that crazy rush of firecrackin' chemistry and rejection before realizing what you really want as a mature adult. So maybe that's what happened when she got with Pitt. But either way, HOOOOOO-LY SHIZ!”

Indeed.  But we can’t see Angelina responding to the gossip one way or another, and Colin ain’t gonna own up to anything, either. He went on to have two sons of his own with two different girlfriends.

What a guy! Dublin native and Hollywood star Colin Farrell made his annual charitable appearance on Christmas Day at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, south Dublin.

Pleased parent Max Wenman shared on Facebook a picture of his son and Farrell with the caption: “Look who came to Crumlin Hospital today and popped in to see Max. Colin Farrell comes in every Christmas Day for the last few years to visit the kids - no press - no photographers - just him and pressies - What a gent ♥ ♥”

Max’s mother Cathy spoke to The Journal, saying that Farrell was “genuinely interested in interacting with the children and making the day even more special for them”.

She added: “I have been overwhelmed at how kind and generous people have been, between all the presents that have been sent in – to people bringing in breakfast rolls and Turkey & Ham on Christmas Day. It certainly brings home the true spirit of Christmas.”

Visiting the children’s hospital is a tradition for Farrell. His visit is usually only made public by those whom he visited with in the hospital as he doesn’t bring along media. Good on ya, Farrell!

Actor and Dubliner Colin Farrell recently recalled how he used to want to be a soccer player when he grew up.

RTE reports on Farrell’s initial dreams of breaking into soccer, but soon realizing he wasn’t quite cut out for the sport. Both Farrell’s father and uncle played soccer professionally with the Shamrock Rovers.

Said Farrell, “I wanted to be a footballer, but I wasn't good enough. Certainly, when I was 13 or 14, I knew for sure that I'd dropped the ball, so to speak.”

''I mean, my dad was kicking a punctured tennis ball up against the wall in his back garden from the time he was four, on his own, six hours a day.”

''So by the time he was nine, he was like that black-and-white footage of Maradona - he could make that ball speak. The knowledge of the game, it was so deep in the marrow of who he was. I just... didn't want it enough. He always used to say that to me, 'You're not hungry enough,' and he was right. But I was obviously hungry enough to get on a plane to LA.''

Despite ultimately finding great success in Hollywood, Farrell remembers his initial time in Los Angeles as a difficult time in his life. “For three weeks, I was doing six meetings a day with producers and directors; it was overwhelming, because I was only 22. When I got home, I was so disillusioned. LA can be a very very lonely town.''

Currently, Farrell’s latest project ‘Seven Psychopaths’ is in theaters. He’s in the process of filming for ‘Winter’s Tale,’ which he’ll co star in alongside Will Smith, Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe.

The 'Seven Psychopaths' actor - who battled alcohol and drug addictions for years - eventually decided to get clean and went to rehab in Antigua in 2005 after realising his body was shutting down on him.

He said: "Obviously I'm not a doctor but you don't have to have a degree in medicine to know when your body's shutting down. I genuinely didn't think I had much longer.

"I'd reached the point where the only voices that had any clarity in the room were the voices of destruction and obliteration."

The 36-year-old star claims he has always had an addictive personality and would obsess about particular kinds of food from a young age.

He told the Sunday Times magazine: "I've been an addict since I was a kid. I'm not joking man - you can ask my mother. I had a Lion Bar addiction for six months when I was seven. Then I had a Coco Pops addiction. I'd go on Smash mashed potato binges, tins of tuna benders. Anything. I'd get addicted to a crosswind. Whatever made me feel good."

The 'Total Recall' actor's eldest child James, nine, suffers from Angelman Syndrome - a neuro-genetic disorder with symptoms including intellectual and developmental disability, seizures, jerky movements and sleep disturbances - and he and the little boy's mother Kim Bordenave delight in his small milestones.

He said: "We share in the smallest victories; the first words at age six or seven, being able to feed oneself at 19, and getting the seizures under control. When James took his first steps at age four, I nearly broke in half!"

Alicja Bachleda-Curus - went public with James' condition when the little boy was four years old, and says he was inspired to do so after watching the Paralympic games.

He told the December edition of America's In Style magazine: "It was at the Special Olympics in Shanghai in 2007 that I decided, after consulting with James' mother, that I wanted to talk publicly about the pride and joy I had in our son. He has enriched my life, but I don't want to minimise the trials that so many families go through; the fear, consternation, frustration, and pain."

And the 36-year-old actor has been given support in coping with James' problems by the Foundation For Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST).

He said: "When you're the parent of a child with special needs, it's important to feel that you're not alone."

Known for his trademark Dublin accent, Colin Farrell gives his redneck-hillbilly voice a try when an interviewer had him and his ‘Seven Psychopaths’ co-stars read lines from TLC’s hit show ‘Here Comes HoneyBooBoo.’

The show, a spinoff of ‘Toddlers and Tiaras,’ follows the family of pageant star Alana, who are comically redneck, so much so that much of the show requires subtitles even though they are all speaking in English.

In this interview for part of the ‘Seven Psychopaths’ promotion, the interviewer asks Farrell, Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell to help “tie this into the greatest psychopaths in American pop culture today, HoneyBooBoo Child”’ by reading some lines from the hit show.

Colin Farrell has ‘eight extra hours a day’ after quitting drinking

The ‘Seven Psychopaths’ actor has been sober since checking in to rehab in 2006 and admitted he was shocked by how much time he had wasted before on his addictions of alcohol and drugs.

He told Details magazine: “I’ve got eight hours a day now that I didn’t have before, when I was drinking every day for 18 years . . . It’s honest, it’s real. That’s quite simply the coolest thing.”

While Colin is now fit and healthy, he is ashamed to admit that even the birth of his son James in 2003 didn’t make him clean up his act at first.

He said: "When I had James, I made a decision not to change. I literally said, 'I'm not changing! I'm gonna be his friend!' Like a f***ing 28-year-old drug-addicted drunk friend is exactly what my six-week-old son needs.”

He also spent most of his time lying to family and friends to cover up his excesses but says it was exhausting to keep track of his untruths.

He explained: “Oh, I wouldn't tell a truth all day. If I'd had chicken and beans for dinner, I'd tell you I had steak and potatoes. No purpose, just habit. The amount of energy you have to put in and the amount of lies you have to tell to keep a drug habit alive, it's fairly significant. Your whole life is a lie."

The debacle of the summer bomb Total Recall well behind him, Colin Farrell is hitting the promo trail again these days for his latest, Seven Psychopaths, a Martin McDonagh ensemble film in which he co-stars with a cast including Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell.

The film opens on Friday – we’ve got a review and interview with McDonagh in our Craic section – and Farrell visited his go-to TV host, Ellen DeGeneres, to plug it.  For his appearance on Monday Ellen’s peeps put together a cute montage from all the other times he’s been on her show, and it’s clear that these two really, really like each other.

They talked about their mutual love of sweating toxins out of their bodies, but Colin, unlike Ellen, doesn’t like pouring water out of his buff body the infra red way, whatever that means. Turkish bathhouses, like the ones he favors in New York’s East Village, give a better sweat.

“It feels kind of primal,” Farrell said of the Turkish way. “They are better than the infra red saunas, they offer deeper penetration.”  And yes, the ladies in the audience, and Ellen herself, had a good chuckle at that line.

Farrell is currently working under sweat box conditions on the California desert set of Winter’s Tale with Will Smith and Russell Crowe.  Farrell plays a thief who a dying woman falls in love with after he breaks into her New York mansion.

“I love sweating. I love sweating. I’m shooting up in Simi Valley and it’s been hot,” he told Ellen. “It’s been 104, 5, 6 degrees everyday and ... it’s a period piece. I'm wearing a three-piece woolen suit and delightfully long underwear for a man.”

Farrell also made time to share some childhood secrets with Jay Leno last week. “I was a hair puller, I used to pull my hair out,” he told Jay last Friday night.

“I liked biting nails too . . . I used to enjoy the feeling of plucking hair from my head.”

That’s probably not too strange considering his mother Rita made it her business to neatly arrange his secret stash of porn magazines.

“She is a big organizer -- she loves having things in order -- she’s a big fan of a clean house,” Farrell said.

“When I was a kid, she used to chronologically organize my porn mags. It’s wrong, just so wrong, because with those kinds of things you can judge a book by its cover.”

Now it’s down to Colin’s sister Claudine to do his life organizing as she works as his personal assistant, but Mama Farrell is still very much on the scene.

“My mother spends half the year here.  She comes over, two trips, three months each time,” Farrell revealed.

“She helps me out with my boys and she just loves being here because two of her three kids are here.  She stays with me and that’s her rent.”

His big budget remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Total Recall laid a fat egg at the box office this summer, but there’s no doubt that Colin Farrell’s next offering, Seven Psychopaths, written and directed by Oscar/Tony winner Martin McDonagh, will fare better with the critics.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last weekend, and Colin was on hand to help promote the project with McDonagh and co-stars Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson and Christopher Walken among others.

In the film he plays Martin, an alcoholic Irish screenwriter who eventually teams with Rockwell’s character to write a film, but gets sidetracked by stealing the precious dog of the mob boss played by Harrelson.

It sounds like a typically outlandish McDonagh film, just like In Bruges, which earned Colin a Golden Globe a few years back. The Guardian in England gave it four stars, and critics in Toronto were also pleased with what they saw.

“The film has a certain kind of chaotic nature to it, but it was really, really easy to shoot,” said Farrell.
McDonagh, born in Britain to Irish parents and author of the Leenane Irish trilogy that made such a splash on Broadway back in the nineties, was his usual deadpan self at the presser for the film. When asked if he researched real life psychos for his movie he replied, “Not really, other than my mother.”

The film is due for U.S. release in the next few weeks, and will bow in Ireland in December.

The 36-year-old actor admits he had a lot of work to do to get in the right shape for his role in the remake but didn't enjoy having to watch what he ate and making regular trips to the gym.

He said: "It took a lot of work over three or four months to get into condition because I hadn't done an action movie for a while.

"When 'Total Recall' came up I thought, 'Cool, I can go and do an action film again.' But, oh man, it was boring.

"I went to the gym, I hit the treadmill, I lifted weights, I ate good food, drank protein shakes and got a good night's sleep most nights. But, boring as it was, I really enjoyed it."

Colin plays a role originally taken by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1990 movie but he didn't seek advice from the veteran star in how to tackle the part.

He told Britain's Hello! magazine: "I never reached out to him while making this movie, although I loved the original when I was a kid.

"I'd hope he would enjoy this one if he saw it, but I'm sure he's got better things to do than concern himself with my interpretation of a part he played back in 1990."

The two stars appear opposite each other in the sci-fi remake and after chatting between takes discovered they both share a mutual love of verse.

Colin let Jessica borrow some books of his favorite poems and then they would discuss the ones she liked the best.

She revealed: "Colin really likes poetry and I'm a bit of an amateur poet myself. He was telling me all about different poets he likes. He would let me borrow a book and I would look at his poetry book over a week and then I'd pass it back and we'd talk about which poems we liked best."

The 30-year-old actress insists it is important to bond with your co-stars at the start of a new film and she always tries to find out what her fellow actors like when shooting starts on a project.

She added: "When you have to have chemistry with somebody you've just met the best thing to do is find one thing about them that you really like - whether it's that he's kind or really funny or a good chef.

"It's something that you grab on to and you make the basis for your fascination or obsession or passion for that person whom you really don't know at all."

The brunette beauty - who is engaged to Justin Timberlake - recently revealed she writes her own poems because she finds it very relaxing.

Jessica said: "I like being able to write when I find the time to get into it. I love reading poetry and I've written poetry myself since I was in school.

"It's very calming and spiritual to be able to get in touch with emotions and states of mind to write poetry."

During an interview with Yahoo!UK for the release of his remake of ‘Total Recall,’ Irish celebrity Colin Farrell chatted about his youth - including how he was recruited for boy band Boyzone, and that he had dreamed of becoming a footballer.

Farrell spared no details in describing when he was approached by Louis Walsh to audition for Boyzone when he was only 17 years old.

"So I was on a dance floor in Dublin and I was 17, in leather trousers and a rubber T-shirt - I'll spare no embarrassing details - when Louis Walsh came up to me and said, 'I'm forming a band, they're going to be huge, do you want to be in it?'

"I said yeah so I want to an audition the next day and there were 150 lads outside the door with various spray-tans, tight t-shirts et cetra. I went in and sang 'Careless Whisper' twice... they asked me to sing it again because they couldn't believe how shocking I was!"

Farrell also added that when he was young, he wanted to be a footballer. A true Dubliner!

The 'Total Recall' actor – who has sons James, nine, and two-year-old Henry from previous relationships – insists his "bad boy days" are now behind him and his loved ones will always come first.

He told German magazine In: "My family, my friends and my two wonderful children are my priority right now. Being a father has enriched my life immensely.

“I’ve become wiser and more mature with the years. My bad boy days are definitely over. You learn from your mistakes.”

Colin, 36, insists he is currently happy to be single but won't rule out embarking on a new romance.

He said: “To be honest, I’m not looking for a woman at the moment. But if it happens, it happens.”

The Irish actor recently admitted he initially resisted settling down when he had children but soon learned he needed to be a dad not a "friend" to his kids.

He said: "People say having children changes you, doesn't it? Unfortunately not. You can go around the world and see stories where it doesn't change people. You have to allow it to invite the change in.

"So the first three years of James's life was me going I'm not going to change. I'm just going to be his friend – we're going to be pals.

"But that didn't work out so well. And then based on a couple of life changes I made myself I thought, 'Why am I fighting change?' "

The British actress had to get hot and heavy with the hunky actor - who she briefly dated - on set and Colin couldn't wait for the scene to end because they had to film it in front of her husband Len Wiseman, who was directing them.

She said: "I've done it with somebody else in front of my husband before so I think it was actually much more awkward for Colin. He was the one who was like, 'Are we done? Are we good?'

"I think it's easier for a woman as we don't have any moveable parts. You can just sort of blank out and nobody can really tell what you're thinking. I think it's much harder for boys maybe - or not."

The 'Underworld' star also revealed she gets more jealous than her husband - who she married in 2004 - and would never let him appear in a sex scene.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, she said: "It's nice that Len is not very jealous and can be relaxed about me doing these scenes, but he would never be allowed to do that.

"It's quite strange being directed by him, actually, because normally he's taking direction from me at home. He never knows where anything is and he can't remember if he likes parsnips and things like that. Anyway that's our life so it's quite a gear change."

The 30-year-old actress loved working with the reformed hellraiser on new sci-fi movie 'Total Recall,' Jessica - who is engaged to Justin Timberlake - believes people are drawn to Colin simply because he is excited about life, rather than because of his partying and womanizing reputation.

She said: "The thing about Colin is he is just so respectful and such a good guy. When you meet him the sparkle is more about having a curiosity of life, excited about the world and excited about what they're doing or travelling, it's that kind of sparkle.  It's that kind of magnetism that I feel he puts out there in the world, he's just cool to be around."

Meanwhile, Jessica is still caught up in Olympic fever even though the London 2012 Games ended last Sunday and revealed she would love to compete.

She explained to UK radio station Magic 105.4's Breakfast show: "Every fourth year that comes around, I'm watching those gymnasts and they're all 4ft 11in and I realize it was never going to be a reality. I'm like 5ft 7in, it was never going to happen, but in my mind I'm always thinking, 'But could I have done it? Could I be a diver? No they're all 5ft 4 in. Could I have been a pole-vaulter, or a long jumper? So I'm always putting myself in there thinking could I still do it."

Jessica has been in London to promote 'Total Recall' - a re-imagining of the cult 1990 film which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The 'Total Recall' actor - who has battled with drink and drug abuse in the past - admits he has memory loss for certain parts of his past but insists he's not bothered about it.

He said: "There are a few black holes, where minutes and hours and days and weeks and possibly months have vanished. But whatever's disappeared I'm fine with, I obviously don't need it. As for things I'd like to forget? I don't think there's any."

Colin - who has two sons, James, eight, and 22-month-old Henry, from previous relationships - also said how he would have loved to have been soccer legend George Best in his heyday.

The Manchester United winger - who died in November 2005 because of complications from the immunosuppressant drugs he needed to take after being given a liver transplant in 2002 - was famed for his extravagant lifestyle and Colin thinks it would have been great to be the Northern Irish player in his 20s.

He told Short List magazine: "I suppose if I were to pick anyone, I probably wouldn't mind being George Best, just at a certain stage when he was a young man. And I say that with all respect for where George's life went."

Colin Farrell is looking HOT these days, as he showed during a weekend stroll in Cancun, Mexico with his ever-present sister Claudine, who also works as his personal assistant.

Total Recall, his hotly anticipated remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, opens nationwide on August 3, and he’ll be back home in Dublin on August 14 for the European premiere, along with co-stars Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale.  His Irish fans are surely going to like what they see.

“I actually like the gym,” Farrell, 36, told USA Today. “I find peace in it. Which is... weird. I never thought that would be me.”

The old Colin used to have no time for healthy pursuits, as evidenced by old interview.  'I see these quotes, ‘Working out for me is lifting a Carlsberg.’  It was true at the time. But now, things have changed.”

Making the film wasn’t at first appealing to Farrell, who had fond memories of the first Total Recall.

''I loved Arnie in the original Total Recall, which I was when I was 15 or 16. There were some funny one liners, there were some great action sequences and really fun performances from Arnie and Sharon Stone. So when I was approached about a new version I was dubious,” he said.

“I didn't feel the need to fill those size 16 shoes or 18 shoes or whatever size foot Arnie has. The film felt different enough that I could go and make it my own.”

Colin Farrell to star in movie charting Ottoman Empire’s aid to Irish famine

A new movie starring Irish actor Colin Farrell will bring the story of how the Ottoman Empire helped Ireland during the Great Famine to the big screen, according to a Turkish website.

The film, which is at the early stages of production, will be a joint venture between the Irish and Turkish film sector, NationalTurk.com reports.

The $50 million blockbuster will include an all-star cast line up including Dublin born Farrell and Oscar nominated Saoirse Ronan and  ‘Game of Thrones’ star Sean Bean.

Ömer Sarıkaya, the film’s Turkish script writer and project manager confirmed the contract with the Independent Film Development Corporation (IFDC).

The movie will tell the love story of Fatih, an Ottoman sailor, and Mary, an Irish native set during the Great Famine, when they Ottoman Empire delivered aid to Ireland.

“With Famine we aim to provide an insight on a lesser-known aspect of this dark and sad period in the world history. Mary will be played by Irish actress Saoirse Ronan while Fatih and Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid will be portrayed by Turkish aces Özçivit and İmirzalıoğlu, respectively,’ Sarıkaya said.

According to the Turkish news website the shooting of ‘Famine’ is to start this October with the film being shot on location in Ireland and Turkey.

Colin Farrell snuck in a week-long trip to his Dublin hometown last week, just before the publicity machine revs up for his big-budget remake of Total Recall which is released next month.

Colin was the guest star at a Q&A at his old National Performing Arts School, reports the Sunday World, and kids peppered him with questions about his career. The school is now co-owned by his brother Eamon.

"The students are on their own individual journeys, whether it's through dance, or singing, or acting. The important thing, and I think they realize it, is that they're all part of telling stories,” he told the paper.

"I don't know what I'm doing half the time so the idea of imparting some grand wisdom from the last 15 years is kind of ridiculous.”

Eamon Farrell remembers that Colin had something special way back when.

"My abiding memory of Col's first class was (acting coach Conal Kearney) coming out and saying, 'He has something special, he's quite unique.’ Now you hear that all the time, but Conal was insistent," Eamon said.
One of the kids in the class asked Colin if he ever paid to watch his own films in a cinema.

“I said, 'Are you mad? I know how s***e they are!,’” Colin joked.

"I admitted to once walking into something, but only because I'd bought a ticket to the screen beside it. It was in New York for one of my first films, American Outlaws."

Colin and his sister Claudine, who also works as his assistant, will be back in Dublin next month for the big European premiere of Total Recall.
