Demi Lovato expected fellow ‘X Factor’ judge Britney Spears to be a diva

Lovato at the 2012 People's Choice Awards
But the 20-year-old 'Give Your Heart A Break' singer has revealed that she and her fellow 'The X Factor'
USA judge Britney, 30, have become really close on the set of the reality series and love hanging out together.

She told People.com: "What surprised me the most about Britney is that she's actually really quirky. You kind of expect a legendary pop star [to] sometimes [be], like, a diva or something, but she's really not. She's a sweet, down-to-earth, Southern girl."

Demi also opened up about her relationship with judges Simon Cowell and LA Reid on the show and said that even though they are competing they all have the same goal and she is really happy to be working on the series.

She said: "At the end of the day, it's about the contestants. It's not about us as judges. I think other shows maybe forget that the entire purpose of the competition is to find a superstar, not to get publicity for the wrong [reasons].

"I'm having a lot of fun. It's such a blessing to be on this show. It came at a time in my life where I really needed something to look forward to in my career. It's been an amazing opportunity, and getting to sit next to Britney and Simon and LA has been an honour. [And] Just being able to mentor girls that I believe in is so - I can't explain it. It feels so great."

Simon Cowell says he could never have predicted One Direction's success

Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell, who discovered One Direction on the UK's "X Factor" in 2010, said he never could have predicted the boy band would get so big.

When asked by MTV News at the premiere of the Fox version of the show if he could have imagined their success, he said,"No! I mean, you know, I thought they would work as a band, but you can't predict these kinds of things," he told MTV News at the premiere of the second season of the Fox version of the show, which kicked off this week.

"But it's down to them," he continued, crediting the guys for putting in the effort to be successful. "They've worked hard. They work really well as a group. The records are good. They're nice guys to work with. So the world, right now, is theirs."

Louis Walsh filled in for Simon Cowell on “The X Factor”

Louis Walsh, probably best described as the Irish Simon Cowell, is getting a taste of what it’s like to be Cowell these days as he filled in for the sick mogul on the U.S. X Factor, alongside other judges Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid.

Cowell took sick with a bug and recruited his buddy Walsh, who’s a judge on the U.K. X Factor.  He dispatched his private jet to London and flew Walsh straight into Kansas City where auditions were taking place.

“(Simon) greased the wheels with the U.S. bosses, telling them that Louis was the man who knew more about The X Factor than any other judge,” a source said.

Mayoman Walsh seems to have gotten along great with Spears, Cowell’s Hail Mary hire in the hopes of shoring up the show’s second season ratings.

"I loved Britney. She is such a star. She's really bright, really brilliant, she has it totally sussed,” Walsh said.

'X Factor's' Simon Cowell says Lady Gaga is one of the 'most boring singer in the world'

The music mogul believes the 'Born This Way' hitmaker, Beyonce Knowles and Katy Perry – who recently matched Michael Jackson's record of having five number one hit singles from the same album on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart - need to be on TV to shine because without a visual medium they are dull.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "If you only ever heard Lady Gaga, she's the most boring singer in the world. You've got to see her – you need TV.

"Same with Beyonce. Or Katy Perry. We're all about image. You have to have that X Factor."

Simon, 51, also poked fun at 'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest, describing him as the "complete opposite" to "intelligent" US 'X Factor' presenter Steve Jones.

He added: "He's tall, dark, British – he's basically completely the opposite of Ryan Seacrest. You've got to add in intelligent as well."

Simon quit his role as a judge on 'American Idol' to launch the new version of his pop star search show.
