Rory McIlroy hasn’t put a ring on it - Caroline Wozniacki denies engagement rumors

Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki has cleared the air over false engagement rumors sparked by the serious bling she was spotted sporting on her left ring finger. The pro tennis player insists that the ring was merely a Christmas present from her boyfriend, Northern Irish golfer, Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy also issued a statement after tongues started wagging. However Wozniacki insists that she simply put the ring on the finger that it fitted best.

So told the Irish Sun, “It was a Christmas present and it fits on this finger and I put it on, and all of a sudden I hear that I’m engaged. But I’m not.

“So, yeah, it’s already twice we’ve had to shut down engagement rumors.”

She added, “Don’t worry, we will let you know if that time happens!”

This year the Danish tennis player dropped from the top of the world ranking to number 10.

McIlroy was asked whether he’d be proposing to his girlfriend to lift her spirits after she was defeated in the first round of the Brisbane International tournament.

His response was, “I don’t think so."

Although Wozniacki’s ranking has dropped, she’s keeping everything in perspective. She said, “It’s not very tough — I’m still No 10 in the world.

“The important thing is that you are healthy. Obviously it is more fun when you are winning. Right now... it is not much fun. I fought until the end.”

Rory McIlroy denying that he and Caroline Wozniacki are engaged

Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki

Superstar couple Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are insisting that they are not engaged after Wozniacki was spotted wearing a diamond ring in Australia this week.

Wozniacki, a pro tennis player, was in Australia ahead of her Brisbane International tournament. The couple reportedly spent the holidays together, further fueling rumors of an upcoming engagement.

McIlroy’s representatives issued a statement saying “On behalf of Rory McIlroy I would like to confirm that he has NOT become engaged to Caroline Wozniacki as was originally reported in Australian press,” a short statement reads.

“Rory is in Australia to support Caroline before he heads in January to Abu Dhabi.”

Caroline Wozniacki says Rory McIlroy’s ex ‘can’t move on’ after break up

Caroline Wozniacki & Rory McIlroy

Tensions mounted this weekend between Rory McIlroy’s girlfriend, tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki, and his ex-sweetheart Holly Sweeney when “Celebrity Come Dine With Me” aired on Chanel 4.

Irish fans had seen the episode of the reality TV show, featuring Sweeney, and other Irish celebrities, when it aired on the Irish TV channel TV3 earlier this year but it seems that Wozniacki hadn’t heard.

Sweeney was playing host to the stars on the show for a dinner party she’d themed “Golf Pros, Tennis Hoes”.

Not impressed with the dig at her  Wozniacki tweeted “It’s amazing how some people can’t move on from the past and get on with their own lives”. Her comment was retweeted 96 times by her 440,000 followers.

Just hours before the cringeworthy TV  show aired in Britain and Ireland Rory McIlroy and Wozniacki tweeted a photo of themselves “on top of the world in Aspen”.

When Sweeney’s episode of “Come Dine With Me” initially aired she responded
by saying “Learn to laugh at the past to move on. P.S. That’s at least a year old.”

She told the Daily Mail “I wanted to do it really to take the p*** out of me, not anybody else. Obviously I was only on the show because of my ex, so that’s why I went for it.

“A current thing at university parties is Golf Pros and Tennis H*s, so it’s not for me to go and change that. It’s a usual night out.”

Earlier this week Sweeney got into hot water with her parents after her friend Gavin Millar posted a steamy photo session on his site. The photos were removed from his site.

Speaking about the photos a source told the Irish Sun “Rory won’t think this is a clever move for her - he’s most likely to think Holly is embarrassing herself and that she could be doing something far more worthwhile with her time.

“It’s backfired on Holly already as her parents have found out and they don’t have a clue why she did it.”

No engagement for Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki despite online rumors

Caroline Wozniacki poses with Rory McIlroy on Sunday in Dubai.
World number one golf pro Rory McIlroy and his tennis sweetie Caroline Wozniacki are not engaged – though one couldn’t be faulted for thinking that perhaps a big announcement might be in the pipeline.

On Monday, someone named Sascha Bajin, best known at the practice partner of Serena Williams, tweeted that Caroline and Rory became engaged. Caroline, though, wasn’t impressed.

“Can’t believe you started rumors like that!” she tweeted back. “Not engaged yet, but you’ll be the first to know if we do!;)”

To which Sascha replied, “I already bought a wedding gift. And you know I would never start rumors. Some birdie told me a lie I guess lol.”

Wozniacki, 22, Rory’s girl for more than a year, was traveling with him last week in Dubai for his last tournament of the year which he won, putting lots of daylight on the PGA tour between him and his closest competitors.  Woz sat in on one of Rory’s press conferences and put on a reporter’s hat to ask what she was getting for Christmas.

“You obviously have unbelievable support this week. So, you know, if you win this week, am I going to get a really nice Christmas present, and what am I going to get?” Wozniacki asked.

Public displays of icki-ness like this are always kind of lame, but Rory, only 23, played along anyway.

“That's great. I've got my parents here,” Rory responded. “Have you not already got a lot of nice presents? It won't take winning this week to buy you a nice present. I think you'll get a nice present anyway.”

The gift, apparently, won’t be a rock, or at least not of the kind that says a marriage is on the way.
But given the millions Rory made this year, we’re sure he won’t disappoint!

Rory and Caroline, or Wozzilroy as they like to style themselves, may not be on the marriage train yet, but Rory’s fellow Northern Irish pro Graeme McDowell, winner of the 2010 U.S. Open, decided to take the plunge and get engaged to his American girlfriend Kristin Stape, an interior designer based in Florida.

"I did it properly, getting down on one knee," said McDowell, 33.  "She had no idea what was going on and was shocked and stunned. I even found myself getting a little bit emotional.”  They’ll make it official at the end of next year.

Northern Irish golfing champion Rory McIlroy wants to settle down - stop living out suitcases

McIlroy and Wozniacki
Golf sensation Rory McIlroy has been traveling the world since he was 16, and though he’s only 23 and admittedly having a ball, the world’s top ranked pro admits that the globetrotting can sometimes get tiring.

Speaking to the Irish Independent last weekend, McIlroy says that at some point in the next few years he wants to establish some kind of home base.  His Co. Down mansion, which he hardly ever saw, is currently on the market, but living out of a luxury suitcase isn’t McIlroy’s idea of paradise.

“I'd love in a few years' time to find a base and settle down. That would be ideal. I don't think someone can do this for a prolonged period like 10 years, say,” McIlroy said.  “I'd like to think that in a few years' time I can find a place."

And would that place include his current girlfriend, tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki?  McIlroy didn’t say for sure, but he’s clearly smitten with his Danish love.

"There's my time away with Caroline  -- that's my time off. My time away. And I need that. Of course she's famous in her own right which can create its own situations, but I wouldn't call them problems,” McIlroy said.

"A few days after the Ryder Cup I came back to Europe and Caroline came back from Beijing and I've just been hanging out with her. We got into Turkey last Monday (October 8) and we've just been relaxing. It's a great situation to be in.

“If I have time, I'll travel wherever in the world she is, just to see her. That's what I want to do. That's what makes me happy.”

He sounds like such a sweet boyfriend! And there’s more – though he’s cleaning up on the golf course, his relationship with Caroline is worth more than any big win.

"Obviously it's very satisfying to win majors and important golf tournaments, but deep down, what makes me really happy is my life outside of golf and how that is at the moment. And that, of itself, enables me to play great golf because everything is sort of in balance."

Caroline Wozniacki distracts Rory McIlroy’s fans wearing very little on the sidelines of the World Golf Finals

Caroline Wozniacki distracts proceedings at the World Golf Finals
Caroline Wozniacki distracts proceedings at the World Golf Finals
A scantily clad, tennis champion Caroline Wozniacki was really distracting fans on the sidelines at the World Golf Finals in Turkey on Tuesday.

Rory McIlroy also didn’t play his best round, getting beaten by American, Matt Kuchar. Maybe this is because Wozniacki was distracting him. Or maybe this is just payback for the Ryder Cup results last week.

Really did you need to pull that pose in that outfit Caroline!!?

As the lads in Joe.ie said Wozniacki was wearing “a get-up that left quite a lot to the imagination.”

We just love the photo Joe.ie grabbed from the TV. All eyes are on Wozniacki. Is anyone actually watching the golf at all!

Rory McIlroy is selling his luxury $10 million mansion to move back in with his parents

Rory McIlroy
Irish (British?) golf star Rory McIlroy didn’t win a $10 million FedEx bonus on Sunday in Atlanta, but he’ll eventually be saving a whole lotta cash when he unloads his multi-million dollar estate at home in Moneyreagh, Co. Down.

McIlroy, 23, has listed his 6,000 square foot five bedroom home on the outskirts of Belfast for £2 million, reason being that with his worldwide golf schedule he hardly spends any time there.  When he is home, he added, he’d just as soon stay with his parents.

“I have really enjoyed living here,” McIlroy says on the website advertising the house for sale. “The house has always been busy with friends and family and has suited us on all occasions.”

The house boasts all kinds of amenities, including a gym, tennis court, limestone floors and, last but certainly not least, four golfing greens.

"When I go back home to Northern Ireland, I'll just spend time with my mum and dad. Hopefully they'll have a room for me there," McIlroy said.

PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy’s games hasn’t been hampered by Caroline Wozniacki love affair

So much for Rory McIlroy’s golf game being in the gutter because of his romance with tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki.

McIlroy, as you likely know, utterly steamrolled the competition at the PGA Championship last weekend, winning the last Major golf tournament of the year.  All the missed cuts and double bogeys mean nothing now, and his relationship with Wozniacki – whose career has definitely gone south since hooking up with Rory last year – is going strong.

Fellow Northern Irish pro Graeme McDowell said last month that the Rory-Caroline romance – they’re nicknamed Wozzilroy – was perhaps taking a toll on his game, but that he’d soon snap out of his funk. McDowell, a major winner himself (and romancing an American designer to boot), was right.

"There's no doubt, all the traveling is wearing him down a little bit and we are seeing a little bit of fatigue," McDowell told a program on the Golf Channel.

"But he's a fit kid and he's a young kid and he has all the talent in the world. It is only a matter of time [before he comes back]."

And what’s a round or two over par when you’re in love?

"He's very happy with his personal life and Caroline is a great girl," McDowell said. "He will be okay. He's had a tough 12 months. Let's be honest, the boy's in love. He's crazy about her. It's not a bad problem to have."

Rory McIlory and Caroline Wozniacki’s careers hurting as their relationship goes from strength to strength

Caroline Wozniacki and Gerry McIlroy at Portrush (David Cannon/Getty Images)
Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki may be lucky in love – but their careers seem to be taking a poison hit from cupid’s arrow.

Wozniacki, the blond Danish pro tennis player who McIlroy fell hard for last year, used to be the top ranked pro in the world. Now she’s only won one low-level tournament in the year she’s been dating McIlroy and she’s had several early exits, including being ousted from Wimbledon in the first round last week.

Her departure from the English tourney allowed her to travel to Antrim to watch McIlroy compete in the Irish Open.  She was the dutiful galpal, walking the course in the rain and cheering on her man . . . but all he could muster was a tie for 10th place, seven shots behind the winner, Jamie Donaldson.

McIlroy won the U.S. Open title last year in thrilling fashion, but last month he couldn’t even make the cut when attempting to defend it in San Francisco.

Love hurts, it seems, but Wozniacki says her poor form has nothing to do with McIlroy.

“No,” was her curt response when asked that question point blank by a reporter delving for information after her Wimbledon ouster.

But a newspaper in Denmark, The Copenhagen Post, disagrees, saying that the Woz has turned into a dud.

“It’s the story all good tabloid sports journalists dream of – and it’s been sitting under their noses for the best part of four months. And now, game, set and match, it’s finally official -- Caroline Wozniacki’s relationship with Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is seriously damaging the health of her tennis career,” opines the paper, offering one damning stat after another.

At least Woz has one ace in her corner.  The legendary Chris Evert, winner of multiple grand slams, says Rory can’t be faulted for his girl’s on court lack of form.

“When she racked up all those ranking points last year, Serena and Venus Williams were out of the game and Victoria Azarenka had not come on strong. There was an opening and Caroline was the most consistent player,” she said. “I don’t think Caroline’s tennis is slipping because she is in love.”

Evert has three busted marriages behind her, including a brief one to golf pro Greg Norman, so she knows of what she speaks. (Or maybe not . . .)

McIlroy, for his part, seemed to enjoy having his lady by his side last week.  He tweeted about seeing a movie with her in Belfast, and several photos showed him grinning from ear to ear while he walked the Royal Portrush course.
Rory McIlroy and Bill Murray
McIlroy also hung out with the one and only Bill Murray, a Saturday Night Live original and star of Groundhog Day among other films.  Murray was in Portrush to play in the pro-am tournament alongside Graeme McDowell.

Rory McIlroy the romantic - Caroline Wozniacki sings her boyfriend’s praises

In addition to being the top ranked pro golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy also makes time to be a great boyfriend, this according to Caroline Wozniacki, his pro tennis playing galpal.

“Our schedules have been fitting really well. We both travel the world and follow the sun. He’s been making a lot of time for me,” Wozniacki told The Irish Times last weekend.

The couple have been together for nearly a year now, after McIlroy dumped his childhood sweetheart Holly Sweeney, and they seem quite content as one of the most well-known sporting couples in the world.

Wozniacki hasn’t been to the Irish Republic yet, she said, but she’s been to McIlroy’s Belfast home turf a couple of times.

“I’ve been to Belfast . . . I’d really like to (come to the south) so I’ll just have to check my schedule, and Rory’s as well,” she says.

The couple are regular users of Twitter and regularly go back and forth together. Last week Wozniacki, 20, noted McIlroy’s 23rd birthday on the social media site.

“Happy birthday to the best boyfriend in the world @McIlroyRory!! 23 years young today!!:))),” she tweeted.

Stop harping and get over him guest tells Rory McIlroy's former lover Holly Sweeney

Holly Sweeney
Holly Sweeney, the former long-term girlfriend of Irish golfing sensation Rory McIlroy, has been told to stop “harping on” about her ex in an Irish reality TV show.

Sweeney is hosting a dinner in the Irish reality TV show “Come Dine with Me,” which is to air on TV3.

“My theme is a tennis and golf theme. I chose it tonight because I used to go out with Rory," she said, according to the Irish Independent.

McIlroy is a star golfer and his new girlfriend is  former world number one Caroline Wozniacki.

"The tennis thing is obviously a little joke because Caroline is world No 1," she added.

The Independent reports that one of the guests at the dinner thought Sweeney should concentrate more on how her life is going.

"For a woman who is trying to move on from a previous relationship and rebuild her life and establish her own personality she should stop harping on about golf to be perfectly honest," said magazine publisher Michael O'Doherty.

McIlroy and Wozniacki have been an item since last year and is one of sport’s most famous couples.

McIlroy is currently second in the men’s world golf rankings and Wozniacki is sixth in the women’s world golf rankings.

Rory McIlroy’s ex Holly Sweeney is in the mood for love this Valentine’s Day

Holly Sweeney (Leon Farrell / Photocall Ireland)
Holly Sweeney, the former girlfriend of Northern Irish golfing superstar Rory McIlroy – he dumped her last year after falling for Caroline Wozniacki, the top-ranked women’s tennis player in the world – is still clearly in the mood for love.

Holly, also from the North, was in Dublin last week to promote the Valentine offerings from the grocery chain Lidl. She admits she’s single but still friendly with McIlroy, and that she’s not opposed to meeting a new suitor.

Holly Sweeney refuses to blame Caroline Wozniacki for Rory McIlroy break-up

Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy’s former girlfriend Holly Sweeney insists she is still ‘good friends’ with the golfing superstar despite their very public split.

Sweeney told Irish television’s Saturday Night Show that she remains on good terms with the golfer, now dating tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.

She also revealed she doesn’t hold Wozniacki responsible for the break-up, admitted she knew something was up after his trip to Germany when he first met the tennis star and laughed that she got custody of their DVD collection while he kept the dogs.

“Why should I blame her?” asked Sweeney in her interview with presenter Brendan O’Connor.

“We are friends, of course. We still talk. Why should I remember the six years that were fantastic for one last horrible memory?

“I am not going to speak ill of Rory, why should I ruin six great years with one bad memory?”

Holly added: “I took all the DVDs. He got to keep the dogs. It’s unfair for them to run around in an apartment rather than however many acres of land there is. I have visitation rights.

“They got their Christmas dinner so I got a little picture.”

A Belfast based student, Sweeney confirmed that McIlroy had a ‘crush’ on Wozniacki even before they met at a boxing match in Germany last year.

“He went to a boxing match with a couple of his friends and I didn’t really hear from him. I let him be because he was with his mates and having a good time and he came back and I got a little bit of a blank,” she revealed.

“I thought, ‘Oh no, something has happened here.’ We sat down and talked it through and it ended up we weren’t together at the end of that night.

“I had seen a tweet from McIlroy saying he had met Wozniacki while he was at the match. I didn’t really read too much into it. Why would you?

“It was just one wee tweet. It kind of niggled but it didn’t really play a big part. He watched the tennis all the time and that was his crush. I thought, ‘Right, OK, so they met each other, that’s fine.’”

McIlroy however ended their six-year relationship when he flew home from Germany.

Sweeney said: “He had his doubts again and, fair enough, I wasn’t going to stick around and make his life miserable, so I thought ‘Right, OK, I’ll do whatever makes you happy.’

“That’s what you do for love, even if it is heart-breaking.”

Currently unattached, Sweeney is on the look-out for romance. She joked: “I wish there was someone special in my life but no I haven’t found anybody. I just knock them straight back.”
