Rooney Mara, the star of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" has been voted the third most desirable woman in the world by Askmen.com

'Modern Family' star Sofia Vergara – who will be 40 in July, made the number one spot. Making her the oldest person to win the title in AskMen.com's Top 99 Most Desirable Women in the World list, after beating off competition from the likes of Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.

The brunette beauty said in a statement: "I am so honored to be AskMen's most desired woman this year. A big thank you to all the men who desire me."

More than one million votes were cast in the survey, which featured 11 of the honorees aged at least 35 or older, with 49-year-old Demi Moore the eldest in the list.

James Bassil, editor-in-chief of the website, said: “I think it has a lot to do with the broadening profile of internet users, who are varying more and more in both age and background.

"I also think a lot of guys are surprised to hear Sofia's [almost] 40, because she doesn’t look it."

American model-and-actress Kate Upton was voted runner-up, while actress Mara was in third, followed by Miranda Kerr and Nicki Minaj respectively.

Other stars to make up the list included singers Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce, as well as actresses Zooey Deschanel and flame-haired beauty Emma Stone.

How sweet, "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara and her boyfriend Charles McDowell have been spotted wearing, rather unglamorous, but still cute, black beanies in New York City.

Mara seems to have been making a point of really pumping up her lady-like look in a bid to work against her latest role as punk Lisbeth in the latest Stieg Larsson movie.

Although the Daily Mail said they thought her look on the streets of NYC was a little more Lisbeth than Mara, I don't think so at all. Rooney certainly looked relaxed though and she seems to be letting her natural beauty shine through.

Contrary to what the tabloids might think life really is not a cat walk / red carpet. 

But speaking of red carpets....Mara and McDowell flew into JFK airport with very little luggage. The pair are expected to arrive in LA just in time for the Golden Globes. Mara has been nominated for her latest role, alongside Daniel Craig in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

The 26-year-old actress is set to become a household name playing lead character Lisbeth Salander in 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' opposite Daniel Craig and is worried commercial success will divert attention from her career.

She said: "I want to be an actress, I didn't want to become an actress to become a celebrity at all. I think that actually hurts your ability to be a good actor, the more people know who you are the less able they are to see you as a character."

Rooney is also worried that celebrity culture is "out of control" but is hopeful she won't let it damage her too much.

She added to Britain's OK! magazine: "Being  a celebrity is certainly not something I ever wanted for myself, but it's obviously a reality of the business I chose to be in. It's a very bizarre part of our culture that's sort of grown out of control and hopefully won't affect me that much."

The 26-year-old actress admits a lot of discussion and planning went into what sort of pubic hair wig she would display in the film, because her character Lisbeth Salander is naked in so many scenes in the new thriller.

In an interview with the Metro.us, she revealed: “There was a lot of discussion that went into my merkin for the movie, because I was naked quite a lot. And I don’t think a lot of people will notice all of the attention that went into that. But there were a lot of discussions around that.”

One of the things the director David Fincher and the production crew wanted to get right was the colour of the intimate hair piece.

Rooney explained: “Well, you know, in the book she’s meant to have strawberry-blonde hair originally and she dyes it, so we had a special merkin made that was, you know, strawberry-blonde so that it would fit.”

The actress stars opposite Daniel Craig in the movie, which is based on the Swedish novel of the same name by Stieg Larsson.

There are two other books which make up the ‘Millennium Series’, ‘The Girl Who Played with Fire’ and ‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest’.

All three tomes have been made into Swedish language films.
