The actor is at the centre of speculation after a report claimed the actress's sons Charles, 14, and Kit, 12, have a striking resemblance to the star who sat with them at the Golden Globe awards.

An amateur genealogist told the New York Post newspaper: "The kids look just like him but blonder."

There has been further speculation after the 'Silence of the Lambs' star - who confirmed she is gay during her acceptance speech at the awards ceremony  - praised her long-standing friend for saving her and she has previously said she'll always love him.

She told the audience: "Mel Gibson, you know you saved me too.
"He's not saintly and he's got a big mouth.

"But I knew the minute I met him that I would love him the rest of my life."

The pair first became good friends when they starred together in 'Maverick' in 1994 and Jodie has supported him through a string of personal problems.

The 50-year-old actress has reportedly promised to tell her sons who their father is when they turn 21.
There are also rumours that the actress's late friend Randy Stone could be the father.

The 57-year-old actor has praised his 'Beaver' co-star after she gave a moving "coming out" speech at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (13.01.13) and he "adores" her for making such a brave move.

He told People: "I kiss the ground she walks on, I adore her. I thought [her speech] was great. I love her."

Jodie received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the event for outstanding contribution to entertainment and Mel - who has previously described the actress' support during his charges of domestic violence on his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in 2011 as "flattering" - thinks she deserved the prestigious prize for being such a down-to-earth person.

When asked why he thought Jodie had been chosen as the recipient, he replied: "Because she's real."

The 50-year-old actress - who raises children Charlie, 14, and 11-year-old Kit with her ex-partner Cydney Bernard - never publicly acknowledged her sexual preference until announcing it on stage at the event.

However, after confirming she is a lesbian, the former child star explained how being in the spotlight for so long had an effect on her actions and she felt a need to keep it "private".

She explained: "But seriously, if you had been a public figure since the time you were a toddler.

"If you had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal, then maybe then too you'd value privacy about all else.

"Someday in the future, people will look back and remember how beautiful it once was. I have given everything up there since the time that I was three years old and that's a reality show enough, don't you think."

The 56-year-old actor teamed up with Mending Kids International - which performs life-saving surgeries for children - and treated a 10 and an 11-year-old girl from Honduras to the A-list lifestyle in Hollywood hotspot the Grove.

Mel took the two girls - who have both had extensive facial reconstruction surgeries - out for a gourmet lunch, followed by ice-cream, and a spot of window shopping before whisking them off to the high-end American Girl doll store where they were able to create their own lookalike dolls.

Speaking about the day out, Mel told TMZ: "It was really fun spending time with Karol and Sara ... They have been through so much and are just so inspirational to everyone who meets them.

"At home, these girls couldn't leave their homes for fear of being tormented. Now, they are walking through one of the most popular tourist areas of Los Angeles."

The charitable star is further pledging his commitment to the organisation by participating in the Mending Kids celebrity poker tournament this weekend in West Hollywood.

Mel is seemingly trying to improve his image after his reputation was tarnished by assault claims made by his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

The 'Braveheart' star was sentenced in March 2011 to three years' probation - including a 12-month domestic violence counselling programme - over the attack on Oksana, who is the mother of his daughter Lucia.

The 56-year-old actor was seen cosying up to stunt woman Ashley Cusato during an intimate dinner date at sushi restaurant Nobu in Malibu.

The brunette beauty has been dating the 'Lethal Weapon' star for over a month and has already been introduced to his family, according to gossip website TMZ.

A source added: "They love her and are convinced she's gonna be around for a long, long time."

The pair only had eyes for each other as they giggled and chatted over the weekend, and Mel had his arm draped around the 38-year-old actress, who is also a brown belt in karate.

Ashley's acting credits include 'Baywatch', 'Cop Land' and 'Alias'.

Mel is thought to have ended a brief romance with Italian singer Nadia Lanfranconi in Cavour of Ashley. The pair had been seen on several dates together in recent weeks.

The actor - who split from Oksana Grigorieva in 2010 in the midst allegations of domestic violence - has just sold his Malibu mansion for $9.3 million.

The 56-year-old actor has finally offloaded the Californian property - which he owned with ex-wife Robyn Moore Gibson, who he divorced in December 2011 - for more than $5 million less than the former couple first expected to make for the abode after it was listed on the market for $14.5 million in March 2010.

Multimillionaire reality TV producer Mike Fleiss - who is responsible for creating 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette' - has purchased the six-bedroom property, which has been described as an "old world hacienda", after selling his own Malibu home for $6 million, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The 48-year-old entertainment mogul, who is known as the "Reality TV King", will no doubt enjoy screening the results of his hard work in the mansion's media room, while recently divorced Mike might like to use the home's two-story entertainment pavilion, lighted tennis court or swimming pool to unwind.

Mike will be able to keep off any rare Malibu chills thanks to the home's several fireplaces and hardwood floors, and he will have plenty of room to house his showbiz friends for the night in one of three-self-contained guest houses.


As well as the abode's five-and-a-half bathrooms, the master suite boasts two walk-in closets, a sitting room and its own fireplace.

Mel continued to insist that he hasn't done much wrong for the industry to judge him in the first place.

He added: "So it's kind of hard to pinpoint exactly what needs to be forgiven and I don't consider that anything does because I didn't hurt anyone.

"But you know, hey that's life. It ain't easy and it's not fair. You've just got to slip the old water off the back and move on."

Joe has released an audio file taken while at the troubled actor's home in December where he is heard shouting about his ex-wife Oksana Grigorieva and questioning why he had not yet received a first draft of the script for now-stalled project 'The Maccabees'.

In a recording released to TheWrap.com, where Mel is heard grunting and growling, he shouts: "Why don't I have a first draft of 'The Maccabees'? What the f**k have you been doing? I'll type it!

"I go to work, you're getting paid, I'm not! S**t! I am earning money for a filthy little c**ksucker who takes advantage of me! Just like every motherf****r! So hurry the fuck up!"

After a period of quiet - where he knocks down a totem pole and throws items - he asks his guests if they would like to eat.

He shouts: "Who wants to eat?! Who the fuck wants to eat?! Go have something to eat!

Hurrrrraaaaayyyyyy! F**king **** c**ksucker whore!"

Other guests at the house at the time included scriptwriter Randall Wallace and his girlfriend Elizabeth Topp and Mel's friend Brad Hillstrom.

The mood turned ugly after Mel saw a picture of himself holding his baby daughter Lucia where he considers himself to look bad.

In a letter to the 'Braveheart' star, Joe said: "You were staring at the photograph of you and Lucia, your beautiful little girl ... and you suddenly exploded. You hurled your cellphone into a wall and started to scream, 'I look so f***ing old! I look horrible! That f***ing whore is destroying me! She's taking my looks! I hate her! She's destroying my life!"

However, Joe says he is not releasing the tape to damage his reputation but to urge him to find help.
He said: "The bottom line is it shows to me he badly needs help. My interest isn't to damage him with this tape but to prevent damage being done to others, starting with Jews, including Oksana and now, I'm sure, me."

Mel has claimed he became angry because the script for the Jewish-themed movie was substandard.

Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas claimed the film - which he wrote - would not be made because the 56-year-old star "hated Jews" and called them "oven dodgers", but Mel has responded saying it was simply a sub-standard script which led to the project being shelved.

In a letter released to Deadline.com, he wrote: "Joe, not only was the script delivered later than you promised, both Warner Brothers and I were extraordinarily disappointed with the draft. In 25 years of script development I have never seen a more substandard first draft or a more significant waste of time. The decision not to proceed with you was based on the quality of your script, not on any other factor.

"Contrary to your assertion that I was only developing Maccabees to burnish my tarnished reputation, I have been working on this project for over 10 years and it was publicly announced 8 years ago. (sic)"

The project tells the tale of Judah Maccabee, a Jewish man who led a revolt against the Seleucid Empire.

In a nine page letter to the 'Beaver' star, Joe claimed he was only involved to rid himself of the years of anti-Semitic claims that have dogged him.

He wrote: "I've come to the conclusion that you never had, or have, any intention of making a film about the Maccabees.

"I believe you announced the project with great fanfare - 'a Jewish Braveheart' - in an attempt to deflect continuing charges of anti-Semitism which have dogged you.

"I've come to the conclusion that the reason you won't make 'The Maccabees' is the ugliest possible one. You hate Jews."

He also claims Mel referred to Jewish people as "oven dodgers" and denied the holocaust.

Joe Eszter has launched a scathing attack on Mel claiming he sabotaged a movie they had planned together, 'The Maccabees' - which tells the story of Judah Maccabee, a Jew who led a revolt against the Seleucid Empire - because he is anti-Semitic.

In part of a nine page letter, he wrote: "I've come to the conclusion that you never had, or have, any intention of making a film about the Maccabees.

"I believe you announced the project with great fanfare - 'a Jewish Braveheart' - in an attempt to deflect continuing charges of anti-Semitism which have dogged you.

"I've come to the conclusion that the reason you won't make 'The Maccabees' is the ugliest possible one. You hate Jews."

Joe further claims the actor-and-director was happy when Beatles legend John Lennnon was shot and killed in 1980 because he had a messiah complex and also accuses him of denying the holocaust and repeatedly calling Jews "oven dodgers".

However, Mel has been quick to hit back, claiming he had been developing the project for a decade before Joe became involved, and slamming the 'Showgirls' writer's first draft of the script.

He said: "'I absolutely want to make this movie; it's just that neither [studio] Warner Brothers nor I want to make this movie based on your script.

"Honestly, Joe, not only was the script delivered later than you promised, both Warner Brothers and I were extraordinarily disappointed with the draft. In 25 years of script development I have never seen a more substandard first draft or a more significant waste of time.

"The decision not to proceed with you was based on the quality of your script, not on any other factor. "I think that we can agree that this should be our last communication."

The 'Lethal Weapon' star - who has a problematic legal history, most recently pleading no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge in early 2011 - has been seen at a courtroom in Los Angeles waiting to be called into service.

While there Mel, who was wearing a baseball cap, jeans and a sports jacket, was spotted reading a script, using his cell phone and taking photographs with some women who were also in the room, TMZ.com reports.

Mel - who has a previous conviction for drink driving - is not the only star to have been recently asked to serve jury duty in California, Guns N' Roses front-man Axl Rose - real name William Bruce Bailey - also took part in a civil trial, serving four days on the legal process earlier this month.

Axl said: "It was relatively painless. I was fortunate that everyone in the courthouse and jurors were all really great, plus I got to see daylight from a different prospect."

The charity aims to provide free surgery for children with cleft lips or spina bifida and Mel – who has spent "far more" time than his court-ordered 16 hours working with the organization - has previously said they have made him appreciate what is really important in life.

He has said:"It gives you perspective. It's one of my faults, you tend to focus on yourself a lot, which is not always the healthiest thing for your psyche or anything else.

"If you take a little time out to think about other people, it's good. It's uplifting."

In March, Mel was sentenced to a year-long domestic violence counseling programe over the incident, which took place in January 2010.

The 55-year-old star was also served with a protective order not to "threaten or harass anyone involved in the case."
