Matthew McConaughey's family is more important than his career

McConaughey with his family at Disneyland in 2011
The 'Mud' star - whose wife Camila Alves welcomed their son, Livingston into the world three weeks ago, joining their two other children, son Levi, four, and daughter Vida, three, - has scaled back on his other interests and reigned in his ambitions so he can concentrate on being a good father.

The 43-year-old actor told EOnline.com at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah: "When you've got family, you have to pick your extracurriculars. Whoever has kid knows that, man. You have to pick and choose and go wait, which is the one I really want to do because I ain't watching all the Saturday's football and I'm not watching all of Sunday's.

"I'm not going to be a kayaker, a snow skier and a marathon runner. No, you gotta zero in when you got kids and a family."

The 'Magic Mike' star said he has no desire to ever move behind the camera as he is satisfied with simply being an actor.

He said: "I'm really enjoying being an actor for hire. I've been offered to produce some things and I've said, 'No thank you.'... I'm really enjoying my time getting ready for a role, my man, my characters, going to work, doing my best to nail it, finishing work and going, 'That was a beautiful time. Thank you. See you down the road. I'm going back to my family.'"

Matthew recently revealed having a third child has made life chaotic for him and his model wife, 30.
He previously admitted: "It's getting to be more of circus that's for sure!

"Another plate at the table. Actually he's not eating at a plate, he's on mama because he's only 10 days old."

Actor Matthew McConaughey is reportedly "pi**ed off" with his longtime pal and disgraced cycler Lance Armstrong in the wake of the athlete's admission of doping while competing.

Despite being angry with Armstrong, McConaughey is also reportedly feels sorry for him and relieved that he never confided in him.

McConaughey told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah: "My first reaction was I was p***ed off. I was mad. I then got kind of sad for him. First off, I had a part of me that took it kind of personally, which I think a lot of people have."

"For him, it was impersonal because he was living a lie. It was a whole unanimous facade he had to carry around."

"What I realised is that those of us that took that personally, like, 'Oh, he lied to me,' it's not true. What I mean by this is, what was he supposed to do? Call me to the side and go, 'Hey man, I did it but don't tell anybody.' Then I would have really had a reason to be p***ed off at him, going, 'You want me to walk around holding this?'"

The father-of-three - who is married to model Camila Alves - has been good friends with Lance for years and they have often been spotted working out together near their nearby homes in Austin, Texas.

However Matt Damon is now reportedly first in line to star in the biopic, which will be made by J.J Abrams' production company, Bad Robot, along with Paramount Pictures, who just closed a deal to acquire the rights to the forthcoming book 'Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong' by Juliet Macur.

Matthew McConaughey says having three kids is like a circus

Camila Alves and actor Matthew McConaughey
The 'Magic Mike' star and his wife Camila Alves welcomed their first son, Livingston, into the world in December, and he admits having a newborn and two daughters, Levi, four, and Vida, three, has made life chaotic for the couple.

Speaking to Access Hollywood on the red carpet at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Monday, he said: "It's getting to be more of circus that's for sure!

"Another plate at the table. Actually he's not eating at a plate, he's on mama because he's only 10 days old."
The 43-year-old actor gushed about his daughters, as well as his new son, when quizzed if the third time was the charm.

He added: "The first time and second time were charming too. I promise you."

The usually toned star looked gaunt at the ceremony as he has lost a staggering amount of weight for his role as HIV patient Ron Woodruff in upcoming drama 'The Dallas Buyers Club', but is now beginning to put the weight back on after filming ended.

He said: "I've gained 25 pounds since I ended that role. So I was 135 and I'm 160 today. There wasn't much to see in the mirror while filming. I didn't think I looked that much different, but when I look back at pictures I did. I did."

Matthew McConaughey fears he could contract diabetes when his work on the 'Dallas Buyers Club' ends

Matthew McConaughey

The 43-year-old actor has shed 38lbs for his role as real-life AIDS victim Ron Woodroof in the movie, and while he insists he is not suffering any health problems as a result of his dramatic weight loss, he knows he has to be careful when regaining his former physique as he could send his body into shock.

He said: "I've been checked. My levels are fine. I'm as healthy as can be. My blood pressure, everything's fine.

"The real health challenge is when you put it back on. It's very easy to create a form of diabetes if you don't do it right. You can't just start eating cheeseburgers and ice cream. Your body will go into shock and it just won't work."

Despite his dramatic weight loss, Matthew insists he feels fine and has shed the pounds in a healthy way, though he is fascinated by the way his body has responded to the changes.

He added in an interview with website The Daily Beast: "I feel fine. I really do. I got the means to lose the weight in a really healthy way. I'm eating fresh fish. I'm just eating small amounts. I'm not being starved. I'm sleeping well ... It's just really an exercise in discipline.

"If anything, it's as much a spiritual journey as it is physical ... It's really been enlightening to understand my anatomy. I don't have the leverage I used to. I have body soreness."

Matthew McConaughey says he can’t wait to eat a cheeseburger after 'The Dallas Buyer's Club'

Matthew McConaughey

The 43-year-old actor - who sparked concern after he recently dropped 38 pounds from his already lean frame for his role as an AIDS patient in the new movie 'The Dallas Buyer's Club' - revealed his gruelling diet has taken a toll and he can't wait to eat a cheeseburger.

The father-of-two - whose wife Camilla Alves is pregnant with their third child, told Hitfix: "Overall, [I've] probably got 35 percent less energy, but there's been plateaus. Getting past 170 was really hard, but then once you get [to] 167 the next seven come off easy.

"Got down to 143 and that's where I want to be. So, once you get past the plateau, your body seems to understand, 'OK, this is where we're leaving now, this is where we are' and so the energy rises.

"Your organs [and] muscles shrink, your organs shrink [and] my stomach has shrunk as well."

The actor also revealed that he lost most of the weight through dieting.

He said: "I'm doing cardio but I'll tell you what, the more I've learned is - and I think it comes with age too - is it's 90 percent diet. It's a matter of how much I eat or how little I eat."

He admits he can't wait to tuck into a gourmet burger once as soon as possible.

He said: "I will have some 70 percent beef, 30 percent fat ground beef, maybe a half-pound cheeseburger with another three types of cheese. I'm going to have buns with butter on both sides, toasted and grilled.

"And then I'm just going to sit back and let the [expletive] just drop on the ground."

Matthew McConaughey talks about his shocking weight loss for 'The Dallas Buyers Club'

Matthew McConaughey has dropped a shocking 38 pounds to play an AIDS patient in ‘The Dallas Buyers Club.’

Speaking with HitFlix, McConaughey said, "I feel good, now. Overall, [I have] probably got 35 percent less energy. The tough part, there have been plateaus."

McConaughey had women swooning earlier this year in the male-stripper flick ‘Magic Mike.’ His body has drastically changed since that role, however.

"Getting past 170 was really hard, but then once you get into the 167, the next seven come off easy. Getting past 160, really hard. But then you fly down to 150. Getting past 150 was really hard. And then, bam, got down to 143 and that's where I want to be."

“Once you get past the plateau, the body seems to understand, 'OK this is where we're living now, this is where we are', so the energy rises," he added.

McConaughey is currently in the midst of a five-week shoot for the upcoming film, which is expected to be released sometime in 2013. Once filming has wrapped, McConaughey knows he’ll have to ease his body back into normalcy.

"The organs shrink, so my stomach has shrunk as well," he explained, "so as much as I can't wait to have that cheeseburger, on the day, it'll be damn hard to eat the whole thing."

Matthew McConaughey has no plans to lose any more weight after dramatic weightloss for "The Dallas Buyer's Club"

Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey

The 43-year-old actor sparked concern after he recently dropped 30 pounds from his already lean frame for his role as an AIDS patient in the new movie 'The Dallas Buyer's Club'.

But a source close to the father-of-two - whose model wife Camilla Alves is pregnant with their third child - is now at his lowest weight.

The insider told People magazine: "Matthew starts shooting this weekend, so he's at his absolute lowest weight. In a month, he'll begin to put it back on."

The actor has flown to New Orleans to begin filming the new movie in which he plays Ron Woodruff, an AIDS patient diagnosed in the mid-1980s who seeks out experimental HIV treatment in a desperate bid to prolong his life.

Last August the 'Lincoln Lawyer' star admitted he found losing the extreme amount of weight to be a huge mental challenge but said he was determined to lose the 30 pounds required for the role.

He said: "I'm playing a guy who was sick and would have loved to have been healthier but wasn't. For me, it's more of a mental thing than a physical thing," he explained, adding that he's been eating "small amounts" of high-protein, low-carbohydrate food.

He added: "I'll get down to the weight I need to get to. I'm on my way, and it's what I need to do for the job."

Matthew McConaughey enjoys cooking steak for his pregnant wife

Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila

Although the 42-year-old actor is on a strict diet to lose weight for his new role in 'The Dallas Buyer's Club', his spouse Camila Alves isn't missing out as he makes sure to cook for her every chance he gets.

He told Us Weekly magazine: "I'm playing a guy who is sick in my new movie so I need to lose muscle mass. I'm doing a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. I eat small amounts - only five ounces.

"But I'm doing a lot of cooking for Camila. She's loves a good steak so I've been making rib-eye for her when I can."

Matthew also revealed he and Camila try to make sure their kids Levi, four, and Vida, two, aren't spoiled by teaching them to give back.

He explained: "We're doing little things. We ask them which toy from Santa they want to give away to people in need."

The 'Lincoln Lawyer' star's cooking for Camila will be appreciated by his wife as the Brazilian beauty recently admitted she is not having an easy pregnancy.

She said: "This [pregnancy] has been a little different.

"Anything you can feel in a pregnancy, I'm feeling in this one. So put it all in the pile, that's how I'm feeling."

Matthew McConaughey wife Camila Alves is not having an easy pregnancy

The 29-year-old model - who is married to Matthew McConaughey - admits carrying her third child is much "different" to when she was expecting son Levi, now four, and daughter Vida, now two.

She said: “This [pregnancy] has been a little different.

“Anything you can feel in a pregnancy, I’m feeling in this one. So put it all in the pile, that’s how I’m feeling.”
However, Camila is not yet experiencing any unusual food cravings.

She added to People: “We have gone the complete opposite direction eating wise, but we’re navigating it. But I don’t really have cravings yet.”

Though the brunette's beauty's career means she has to take care of her appearance, she revealed her husband favours a more natural look - and the 'Killer Joe' star even asked her to go bare-faced when they married in July.

She said: “He likes as simple as possible. Less make-up, less everything.

“I remember for the wedding he was like, ‘Don’t put any make-up on,’ and I was like, ‘It’s our wedding, [I'm going to] want to put makeup on!’”

U2’s Bono and wife Ali bonded with Matthew McConaughey in Ibiza

Bono, wife Ali join Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila in Ibiza
Bono and his wife Ali usually spend their summer vacays in the south of France, but this year they’ve also added Ibiza to their itinerary.  While there they met up with Matthew McConaughey and his pregnant wife Camila, as you can see from our picture, with Bono taking plenty of protection from the scorching sun with his hat and black shirt.

Here’s no surprise – Simon Cowell would love to have Bono appear on his reality singing competition The X Factor.  Bosses at American Idol and all the other shows feel the same.

“Bono is one of the top choices each year when shake-ups on these shows come around. He has repeatedly shrugged off talk of appearing as a judge as he hasn’t the time and it’s not really up his street at the moment,” a source told The Irish Sun.

“As far as producers are concerned, who better in the world to judge you than someone considered a kind of God of the music world?”

Matthew McConaughey says romantic-comedies saved him from a 'cold part' in his career

Matthew McConaughey
The 42-year-old actor - who has played an array of Hollywood heartthrobs over the years including Benjamin Barry in 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' - admits the success of 2001 film 'Wedding Planner' ensured he was asked to do further films in the genre, but he never planned it like that.

He said: "Truth is, I was in a colder part of my career at the time. I was coming off, what was it, 'U-571'? I had to try different things. I did action movies, crime; and then I did 'Wedding Planner'. I thought, let's go see what it's like to just be light; never done that before. And then, s**t ... it made a whole bunch of money, and they came back, and offered me more."

The 42-year-old star also admits he has little respect for the characters he played in both 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' and 'The Wedding Planner'.

He added: "The male is always the pawn in a romantic comedy. Come together, break up, go chase her, get her, roll credits. What woman wants that guy?"

Despite this, the Texas-born actor - who is starring in 2012 thriller 'Killer Joe' - says that he still takes humour "really seriously".

He said: "I take the comedy real seriously. There's a whole plan behind it. Even though those characters look like I'm just skating through, there's a design behind it.

"They look easy-breezy' but if you go digging too deep into the character, you sink the ship."

Matthew McConaughey speaks of his children’s joy during his wedding

Matthew McConaughey's children ran down the aisle when they saw him at his wedding.

The 'Killer Joe' actor's children Levi, four, and Vida, two, played key roles when he married their mother Camila Alves at their Texas home earlier this month and though they were easily distracted, he says things "worked out" in the end.

He explained on 'TODAY': "Levi brought the rings on a necklace. Vida was the flower girl.
"I don't think she dropped one petal.

"It was only 25 yards. It took them two minutes to make it this far. They stopped, talked to some guests. Then I crouched down and they came running this way and it all worked out."

The 42-year-old actor is thrilled with how "healthy" all aspects of his life are at the moment.

He added: "My life is healthy. Personal life is good, career feels good and we'll just keep on cultivating."

Meanwhile, the actor admits he has "always" wanted to be a father, even when he had uncertainty about other aspects of his life.

He told the Metro newspaper: "One thing I always knew I wanted to be, since I was eight years old, was to be a father.

"When I was 20, I didn't know what I wanted for a career but I knew I wanted to be a father. The men I looked up to the most were fathers - men who raised good kids."

Matthew McConaughey wears a revealing thong in 'Magic Mike'

Matthew McConaughey
The actor plays a "lunatic guy" in the male stripper film, and promises fans will get to see him bare plenty of his flesh for the role.

When asked if he takes his shirt off in the film, he said: "I had to. I couldn't do this film and not do that. This was different, though, man. This was more than taking off my shirt. You'll see, man. I've got an exceptional thong."

Matthew, 42, stars alongside Channing Tatum - who plays lead character Mike - in the movie, and said he had to make his character, strip club owner Dallas, crazy to make up for the fact he wasn't as good at dancing as his younger co-star.

He added to Shortlist magazine: "Channing's such a damn good hip-hop dancer, I knew I wasn't going to challenge him at dancing.

"It's raw, man, I get to play this lunatic guy, who's a bit of a Jim Morrison, Malcolm McDowell in 'Clockwork Orange' kind of guy. He's ready to revolutionize the male [stripping] world. In his mind, he's an absolute deity."

Matthew McConaughey "lost it" when Camila Alves arrived at their wedding

The 'Magic Mike' actor - who married the Brazilian beauty at their Texas home earlier this month - will never forget the moment he first saw his bride because it was such a wonderful feeling.

He said: "As soon my head came down the music cued and she walked in and I lost it. It was wonderful and I'll never forget that moment."

The 42-year-old star - who has children Levi, three, and Vida, two, with Camila - insists he had no pre-wedding nerves because he was so certain of his feelings.

He told 'Access Hollywood': "I was not nervous leading up to it, because I was secure in what I was doing. I knew how I loved her...no regret. There was none of that. No, 'Am I doing the right thing?' I was way past that."

However, the 'Lincoln Lawyer' star admits he became overwhelmed when he realised he was the "king" of 29-year-old Camila's childhood dreams.

He said: "We had that long like 30, 40 second pause before she came out and started the wedding music and I remember leaning my head back and sort of just thinking and praying...

"I had gone through 42 years of my life and things when you were a child and looking forward to getting married one day and everything.

"Then I went through 29 years of her life and it hit me that here's this woman that was once a young girl and this is every girl's dream to find their prince and find their king and to have that fairytale that a young girl has and then grows into a woman, and then it hit me I went, 'And I'm that man.' "

"Lincoln Lawyer" star Matthew McConaughey is done with romantic comedies

Matthew McConaughey
The actor is famous for appearing shirtless as a romantic lead in a string of films including 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' and 'Failure to Launch', but he is ready for more edgy roles, such as playing a ruthless hitman in 'Killer Joe'.

He told Shortlist magazine: "It's another chapter for sure. I did have to say no to a lot of romantic comedies. I think Hollywood got a little bit like, 'OK, he seriously doesn't want to do any more of these right now.'
"And however the world works, something happened and the message got out."

The 42-year-old star - who is married to Brazilian model Camila Alves, with whom he has two children, son Levi and daughter Vida - knew 'Killer Joe' was the right role for him to refresh his career after he felt sick when first reading the script.

He added: "The first time I read 'Killer Joe' I thought, 'I don't want anything to do with this. I feel sick to my stomach and I need to take a shower.'

"I went back and read it again and suddenly it clicked. Oh, 'this is a riot man. It was exactly what it was looking for. I was like, yeah, this acting thing, it's a rodeo. All right, lets go ride the bull. Let's go shake some s**t up!"

'Killer Joe' is in cinemas at the end of this month.

Matthew McConaughey wrapped wife Camila Alves' engagement ring up in seven boxes

Matthew McConaughey
The 'How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days' actor proposed to the Brazilian model last Christmas Day and he wanted to make it as exciting as possible, so decided to hide the ring in lots of parcels.

He said: "It was the last gift to be opened and I wrapped it in seven different boxes so Camila would have to keep unwrapping."

Matthew - who has two children, Levi, three, and two-year-old Vida, with Camila - says once the brunette beauty found the ring, he got down on one knee and popped the question.

He told People: "She got the ring, I took a knee and asked her to marry me and take my name. After a bit, she conceded ... thankfully."

The couple - who have been in a relationship for five years -  married at their Texas home on June 9 and the couple are excited about what the future holds.

Matthew said: "We decided to embrace the ritual of marriage as an opportunity and adventure we'll take together."

Matthew McConaughey marries Camila Alves in Texas on Sunday

Matthew McConaughey
Irish American actor Matthew McConaughey wed his beau Camila Alves in Texas following a six month engagement. The two have been together for five years and have two children together, Levi and Vida.

RTE reports that McConaughey first asked Alves to marry him on Christmas Day last year. ‘People’ magazine confirms that Alves has taken McConaughey has her surname following the nuptials.

Opting for what appears to be an outdoorsy theme for their wedding, guests were provided with tents and camping gear to camp out on the couple’s extensive property in Austin, Texas, McConaughey’s home state.

While the couple are only officially married now, Alves has been quoted as saying that they’ve been enjoying a “married” life since they first met: "We've been living a married life for over six years now. We have homes together, we have family together, we have kids, we've built a life together. So, we've been living a married life this whole time."

Matthew McConaughey is set to marry Camila Alves this weekend

The ‘Magic Mike’ actor is planning to tie the knot with his long term partner – with who he has three-year-old son Levi and two-year-old daughter Vida – in a special ceremony in Texas.

According to E! News just two dozen clothes friends and relatives have been invited to the “cosy” celebration, with those working at the event signing a nondisclosure contract.

Camila was due to be honoured at the Step Up Women’s Network event in Beverly Hills last week but instead sent a video message so she could remain close to the wedding plans.

Matthew, 42, recently moved his family back to Austin, Texas because he loves the laid-back vibe of the city and enjoys a level of anonymity he cannot achieve elsewhere.

He said: “No one recognizes you and no one asks you, 'Hey, what do you do?' because I don't think anyone cares.

"Fridays show up sooner here. You want to get along in Austin, you want to get along in Texas, all you have to do is be yourself."

Matthew McConaughey plays drums with his children

Matthew McConaughey
The 42-year-old actor - who has son Levi, four, and daughter Vida, two, with fiancée Camila Alves - is thrilled the youngsters share his enthusiasm for the bongos and they enjoy "jamming" together.

He said: "Oh yeah, they play the bongos. They've got great rhythm. We jam."

The 'Killer Joe' actor admitted he would've loved to serenade Camila with his bongos when she was giving birth to their children but there wasn't enough time to grab his instruments.

He told Total Film magazine: "If I'd had them in there, I would have used them, but I had no time to go get them. Talk about a wild ride - woo, yeah."

Matthew feels like a "shepherd" and a "king" now he is a parent and says it is a responsibility he has always dreamed of having.

He said: "I feel like I'm a courier, a shepherd. I'm a king now. I've got two valuable packages tied to my hip and that's my son and my daughter.

"I cherish it. Being a father is the one thing, since I was eight years old, that I knew I wanted to be. I remember I loved calling somebody 'sir'. I've always respected, looked up."

The 'Lincoln Lawyer' star feels society no longer places as much importance on politeness and respect as it used, to but he insists they are values he makes sure his children adhere to.

He said:" The window's open and there's definitely a draught coming through the house. But not all houses, not around us.

"You say, 'Sir' and you say 'ma'am', you say 'please' and 'thank you' and 'you're welcome' because that means 'I receive your thanks'.

"You say 'ma'am' and 'sir' because that person's been on earth a lot longer than you."
